Join the
Freehold Owners Association
If you believe, as we
do, that the lease agreements that freehold owners have historically
been asked to sign are unfair, join FHOA. We have the technical
and legal expertise necessary to draft freehold lease clauses
that are fair to both freeholders and oil company-lessees (see
“CAPL Leases - Suggested Modifications”).
If you believe, as we
do, that the regulatory and judicial processes that protect
the vulnerable from exploitation by the powerful in Canadian
society are not working for freehold owners, join FHOA . We
have the technical expertise necessary to recognize situations
in which oil company-lessees are treating freehold owner-lessors
unfairly, and we can deal with the oil and gas industry and
its regulators on an equal technical footing (see “The
Role of Regulatory Authorities”). FHOA also has the
legal expertise necessary to recognize regulatory and judicial
issues that impact freeholders and intervene as required (see
“The Role of the Courts”,
“The Split Title Problem”,
“A Common Voice”).
FHOA has the expertise
necessary to recognize the problems faced by you and other freehold
owners, and to develop appropriate solutions to these problems,
but we need your help to accomplish change - there is strength
in numbers. Over 1650 individuals have joined the Freehold Owners
Association since inception. This level of membership provides
FHOA with some legitimacy, but an estimated 25,000 individuals
own freehold mineral interests in Alberta alone.
If you haven’t already
joined FHOA, join today and help us to help yourself. The
Freehold Owners Association is a not-for-profit association
managed and directed by volunteers.
Your $50
annual membership fee or $135 for three, which is FHOA’s primary source of
funding, may be the best investment you ever make.
If you’re already
a member of FHOA, make any of your family members, friends or
neighbours who own freehold mineral interests aware of the Freehold
Owners Association, and suggest that they join.
For more than half a
century, the oil and gas industry has ‘had its way’
with owners of freehold mineral interests in Canada. It is time
for freehold owners to receive a fair return on our valuable
non-renewable resources. A strong association representing thousands
of concerned freehold owners can, and will, bring about greater
fairness (“FHOA Membership”).
